CURRENT NOTES ON AI USE

• AIs are imperfect. Although not often, they can make mistakes and give wrong answers.  On occasion, they go completely off the rails – these are called “hallucinations.”  NOTE: Always double-check critical information – use multiple AIs or ask questions of people.

• Some AIs will censor language, graphics, video, and audio, for example,

  limit violence, explicit content, specific people, and others.

• Not all AIs are current with the internet.  If unsure, ask the AI for the date

  of the last update.

• Most AIs have a free version, but you need an account.

  A Google account is almost universally usable and most straightforward.

• You can delete any chats one by one or all, usually in the settings.

• Tell the AI what level of technical you want – PhD, 10th grade, young child.

  “Please provide your response at a high school education level.” 

  GLOSSARY

  Artificial Intelligence (AI): is a computer-based interactive system that can respond to questions and requests by generating responses to human requests using a large set of information (data) and rules (algorithms). AIs are generally more knowledgeable than most humans and have some apparent ability to reason and be creative. I believe it can be more accurately described as Alien Intelligence as it does not “think” like humans – feelings, emotions, moods.  AI operates differently, with varying abilities and constraints. That said, AIs can SOUND very human. The Input and Output Forms are currently: Files, Audio, Images, Text, Other computers, and Video and related.

   Chat: The written or other dialog with an AI to solve problems, answer questions, and develop multimedia out of multiple forms – audio, graphics, videos, programs, etc.

   Prompt: The “what and how” to ask the AI questions.  This is critical to get the best-quality response.  Providing context is very helpful.  For example, the Prompt: “Explain what happens to an apple when it turns brown after cutting it open. Provide the response at a 4th-grade level”.  Or… Prompt: “Create a photo-realistic image of an apple on a table… or “Create a graphic with a 50s cartoon look of cars cruising down Mainstreet.” 

  Multimodal: input or output can be files, audio, images, text, other computers, or video.
